Share

On 25 March 2026, the International House of Japan (IHJ) hosted a policy roundtable with a visiting delegation from the Asia New Zealand Foundation. The session brought together members of the New Zealand delegation and IHJ experts for an off-the-record exchange on the evolving strategic landscape of the Indo-Pacific.

The programme opened with remarks by Ken Jimbo, followed by an overview of New Zealand’s foreign policy outlook and priorities by David Capie. Presentations by Julia Macdonald, Alistair Crozier, James To, and Jon Fraenkel addressed New Zealand’s defence and domestic environment, relations with China, and engagement with the Pacific.

The discussion that followed explored regional security dynamics, including the future of U.S. alliances in Asia, prospects for Japan–ROK cooperation, developments in Japan–China relations, and the growing role of geoeconomics and Pacific engagement in regional strategy. The session concluded with closing remarks, bringing the productive exchange to a close.
