In recent years fundamental doubts about the legitimacy of the democratic system have spread in the liberal democracies―are the needs of the electorate truly being reflected in elections and pressing challenges met? In this symposium we will look at such cases as the United States, Britain, South Korea, and Japan, examining the legitimacy of the democratic system both in theory and actual practice.
