[Photo Exhibition] The International House of Japan in the History of Cultural Exchange in Postwar Japan

Share

Since its establishment in 1952, the International House of Japan (I-House) as a private, nonprofit and nongovernmental organization has been engaged in various activities for the furtherance of mutual understanding between Japan and overseas countries through the promotion of cultural exchange and intellectual cooperation, centering upon exchange-of-person programs.

With an introduction of the major actors with which I-House cooperated from the end of the Second World War to the fluid situation of world politics in the post-9.11 era, this photo exhibition aims at shedding light upon the history of I-House. How have the purpose, geographical scope, and modality of cultural exchange been transformed in connection with the changing political, economic, and cultural world landscape surrounding Japan? Posing such questions, it will attempt to serve as an occasion to think over the future of cultural exchange.
