Since March 2026, the International House of Japan has been sending Mr. Yoshida to the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in South Korea as the inaugural LEAP Overseas Fellow.
Participation in Roundtable
In addition to his research and language studies as LEAP Overseas Fellow, Mr. Yoshida continues to attend the roundtable at the Asan Institute and external meetings to broaden his knowledge. One such example was his participation in a roundtable discussion held at the Asan Institute with the Dubai Public Policy Research Center titled “Iran War and the Emerging Gulf Order: The UAE’s Strategic Response.” The roundtable featured discussions on the situation in Iran, the Gulf order, the UAE’s strategic response, and the interconnections between the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific, providing an opportunity to gain a cross-regional perspective that extends beyond East Asia, where the fellows are based.
Participation in and Expansion of the Japan-U.S.-Korea Next-Generation Practitioners’ Network
Outside of ASAN, he participated in the Cushing International Law Conference, which was co-hosted by the Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy and the Naval War College, in Seoul. He also participated in the monthly online workshop of Young Trilateral Leaders (YTL), which is one of the programs that will shape the future of the U.S.-Japan-South Korea relationship. Regarding YTL, Mr. Yoshida was selected as a representative for the Honolulu Summit this year. He also joined the US-ROK-Japan Trilateral NEXT-GEN Study Group, which was founded by the past YTL participants, and attended the TogetherWeTri event, which was held outdoors with the support of the U.S. Embassy and where he was able to network with other participants.
Life at Asan
Mr. Yoshida lives in housing facilities located a 30-second walk from the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, and the same building houses a staff cafeteria for lunchtime meals. Asan staff can freely help themselves to a buffet of main dishes and side dishes prepared by a dedicated chef, and lunchtime serves as an important opportunity for staff members to deepen their relationships while sharing a meal together.

What is a LEAP Overseas Fellow?
LEAP Programme is a people-to-people exchange program of the International House of Japan. It aims to strengthen relations between neighbouring countries at the grassroots level and promote peace in East Asia, centred on the themes of ‘peace, reconciliation and mutual understanding’. LEAP Programme consists of three fellowship programmes, and as of May 2026, the LEAP Overseas Fellowship Programme is being implemented in South Korea.
