Paul Denhoed

Paul Denhoed is teaching Art & Art History at Asia University in Tokyo. He has been studying Japanese hand-papermaking for over 20 years, and has been teaching, lecturing, and writing about the subject since 2002. He is the author of “Observing Variations in Japanese Papermaking Traditions, Tools, and Techniques,” and other articles on the topic. After studying the craft for three years at the University of Iowa Center for the Book, he has been carrying out independent research in Japan since receiving a Monbukagakusho Scholarship in 2001. This included two years as a full-time papermaker in Niigata at the Oguni Washi Papermaking Studio.In 2008, he was part of the team which organized the World Washi Summit, held in Toronto.
