In 2013, Croatia joined the EU (European Union) and the EU has enlarged to 28 countries. But the economy has not revived fully after the 2008 world fiscal crisis and there have been no effective measures taken towards the Ukraine crisis. Professor Tanaka, a leader in research on the EU in Japan, says that in Japan the importance of the EU even with these influences to the world is underestimated. In this talk, he will speak on why the EU is important to Japan, as well as the momentum for localism, such as in Catalonia and Scotland, that can be witnessed today in Europe.
