Roundtable with Tinatin Japaridze – “Navigating the Age of Uncertainty: Geopolitics, AI and the Future of Strategic Decision Making”
On September 24, 2026, the Research Institute for Advanced Innovation and Geostrategy (RAIS) held a discussion event titled “Navigating the Age of Uncertainty: Geopolitics, AI and the Future of Strategic Decision Making” at the International House of Japan in Roppongi, Tokyo.
For this session, RAIS was honored to welcome Ms. Tinatin Japaridze, Director of Geopolitics at Anadyr Horizon Inc., together with Professor Tomoyuki Furuya, Co-Representative of RAIS, who moderated the conversation.
The discussion explored how AI, simulation, and scenario-based analysis are changing the way policymakers understand geopolitical uncertainty. Rather than treating AI as a tool for producing a single forecast, Ms. Japaridze emphasized its value in making uncertainty more visible, structured, and actionable, while highlighting the continued importance of human judgment.
This was followed by a moderated discussion and Q&A covering a wide range of topics, including the limits of historical analogies, the relationship between information and uncertainty, the role of simulation in stress-testing assumptions, AI and data sovereignty, and Japan’s position in navigating uncertainty amid technological competition and regional security challenges. The session also examined how Japan’s resilience, strategic positioning, and potential strategic indispensability may offer lessons for decision-making in an increasingly uncertain international environment.
RAIS will continue to deepen the discussions regarding Japan’s position in the ever changing global environment.
