Architalk: Seeing the World through Architecture
I-House boasts a building constructed under the collaboration of three prominent modern Japanese architects, and from its inauguration has been receiving guests and members from the field of architecture. To expand this network, I-House launched a new program in 2016, the tenth anniversary of the extensive renovation of the building, inviting speakers from Japan and abroad to think about contemporary issues through architecture.

ALF was established by Teruhide Sato and Lin Kobayashi, both board members of the International House of Japan (IHJ), along with 5 other founding members. Their awareness of the necessity for a dialogue platform among leaders of the current generation led to the creation of ALF, with the aim of passing on a hopeful Asia to future generations.

I-House, which has engaged in various exchange activities with India and Indian nationals since its early stages, offers a set of Japan-India exchange programs, including a distinguished visitors’ program, a seminar series on India, and performing arts events.

Our orderly ways of life have been disrupted in many places around the world, notably in Ukraine and Gaza, and there is little prospect of an early recovery. The issues modern society must consider, such as generative AI, climate change, and DEI promotion, have also grown more complex. The I-House Art and Design Division, under the leadership of Director Yuko Hasegawa, is organizing discussions among experts from different fields to explore the roles culture and art can play in promoting empathy and communication and connecting today’s divided cultural, political, economic, scientific, and other domains.
