This event now concluded.

The I-House garden, designed by famed Kyoto landscape artist Ogawa Jihei, is an oasis in the middle of Tokyo. This is the fourth virtual tour guided by our supervising gardener Chisao Shigemori. The first half will introduce the history of the garden and the role of the garden in a big city, while the latter half will explain how pine trees are cared for. Pine trees are one of the most essential trees in Japanese gardens because of the beauty of their shape. The meticulous and loving care of the pine trees, including pruning pine needles that have grown over the summer and stripping the bark by hand, is a delight to the eyes of visitors to I-House during this season. With the help of documentary photos, Mr. Shigemori will show you how the gardeners of Kyoto-based Doppo-en take care of these trees.
