Ms. Chino was a partner of an international law firm in the U.S. before joining Itochu Corporation as its Corporate Counsel. As a lawyer specializing in cross-border transactions, she will share her thoughts on the recent phenomenon of many countries and organizations to “standardize” legal principles and to apply such principles outside of their respective geographical territories.

Mitsuru Claire Chino

Ms. Chino received her B.A. from Smith College and her J.D. from Cornell Law School. She was a partner of an international law firm before joining Itochu Corporation as its Corporate Counsel. In April 2013, she became the first female executive officer of any major trading company in Japan. She has been recognized as a Young Global Leader (World Economic Forum, 2005), Asia 21 Fellow (Asia Society, 2006), Yale World Fellow (Yale University, 2007), US-Japan Leadership Fellow (United States-Japan Foundation, 2008), one of the Top 25 in-house counsel in Asia (Asia Legal Business, 2010), and Asia Pacific’s Innovative Lawyer (Financial Times, 2014). Ms. Chino is a member of Cornell Law School’s advisory board.
