Based on his career at museums in Canada and the United States, Dr. Mino has contributed to museums having a positive economic impact on local areas and inspiring creative activities by museums in Japan including the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa. He will talk about the ideas and know-how which he has cultivated as well as the role and value of museums in the society.

Mino Yutaka

Dr. Mino obtained his BA from Keio University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. He worked as an Associate Curator for the Asiatic Department at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and a Curator for the Oriental Art Department at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and for the Chinese and Japanese Art Department at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1995, after coming back to Japan, he served as Director at the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa. In 2007, he was appointed Vice Chairman of Sotheby’s North America. He has held his current position since 2010.
